The problem with Australia, is that everything is so much more expensive here.
Even 2nd hand!

Typically the JC120 will fetch around $1k used (if you can find one), and sell new for about $1800-$2000.
I played one years ago, it was quite nice. They're a little big for my house though and quite a bit heavier than the Deluxe Reverb too!

A brand new DRRI can be had for $1650 or a Princeton for $70 less than that.
I even calculated getting one from the states, but the savings are only around $150 once shipping and power supply conversion is factored in.
There is a used DRRI with a "upgraded speaker" near me, but the guy wants the same money as a brand new Princeton with a 5 year waranty!
It did sound nice, but not much nicer/different than the two other stock amps I played.

A fender twin reissue will cost $2k 2nd hand and the other variants from the 80's and 90's will be anywhere upward of $1200
For that kind of cash I'd like the comfort of a five year warranty.

Money isn't the issue here, but the fact that I have chopped and changed my gear so many times over the years, it drives my beloved bonkers

I'm 70% DRRI 30% PRRI. Though it could go either way once I have the Mosrite in store. :)

Then buy the Deluxe Reverb the 12" speaker makes a big difference compaired to the 10" in the PR.

These belong to Don Hunt Jr. A matching pair of Standel 25L15's

These match the case for his TNM MAPHIS

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

For what it's worth, Amplitube's Fender software does a decent job of replicating the cleans of the Deluxe Reverb, it doesn't model the overdrive very well.

I got about an hour of surf guitar in before work this morning.
The software/heaphones approach is good enough for practice in the early hours.

Well today is the day...
I'll have a new amp in a couple of hours.

Still not sure which one.
I'm leaning toward the Princeton Reverb now, slightly cheaper, a lot lighter and better for playing at home.
Very hard to sift through all of the information on the web too.

So much emotional reviewing and not enough qualitative/objective information from users.
Forum threads I see are often derailed by talk of boutique amps and mods.

From what I've heard in person, they're both very nice amps right out of the box.

I do have a 12" extension cab if I feel the need for a larger speaker.

So, if the store has one but not the other in stock, I'll go with what is available. Otherwise I'll probably take the smaller one. But will A/B test again, just to be sure.

I have found that the headphones used make a HUGE difference to the Amplitube experience...through a good P/A, you'd be hard-pressed to hear a difference...

I haven't tried a PA, but I've had useable results when noodling about with my headphones.
The only other emulation I liked better was the Boss Pedal.

Anyway I bought the Princeton.
It came down to the tremolo. I've never been a fan of otpo tremolo.
I like the verb on the deluxe slightly better, but the feel of the tremolo won me over.

I played them side by side for an hour in my lunch break with a middle o the road strat.
While I was playing the Princeton(just some slow chords with a little vibrato), one of the guitar store guys came over and said "wow that sounds awesome" and was surprised when it was the Princeton and not the Deluxe. At that point I made my decision.

Also after cranking both of them to 10, there really wasn't much of a difference in volume at all.

So, here's hoping that I love it when I get it home, otherwise the Mrs will not be happy with me .

Yay I win again :)

It's the perfect companion for my Mosrite and sounds good at low volumes!
I've only spent a little time with it tonight as we're having people over.

So my next plan is to build a clone cabinet of the dimensions from the Deluxe to be my extension cab.
Maybe even a 15"

Thanks for the help deciding :D

If it sounds even close to the 1966 PR I have here it is a great choice. Have fun with it.
