Brian May Guitar Made by Burns

Postby oipunkguy » Sat Oct 17, 2009 12:40 am

has anyone ever checked out a Brain May guitar before? they're quite interesting. I'm setting one up for a friend of mine, and it has a few mosrite-like qualities to it. the pickups are three single coils, but are hum-cancelling, and can get a variety of different tones for twangy to pretty beefy.
also the knobs on these are really close to an old mosrite speed knob, and these guitars have a zero fret (nut) with a string guide behind it. kinda neat. :D
Cheers,
Aaron

I own one and they are very versatile the pickups are wired in series. It also has phase switch for each pickup ,ebony fingerboard, chambered body.

They are nice. Those and the Guild version are getting pricey. I saw a Guild in a Guitar Center in Ft. Lauderdale a while back and they wanted 4 grand for it. The Brian May Guitars version is about $700. I always wondered what a Strat would be like with a set of Burns pickups in it.

Well I was going to post the video, but here's the link of a video with a Strat with Burns pickups.

It's funny you mention that. I've been looking at these for about a year and wondered how they were in person. The sound clips I've heard are great. Is the one you're setting up from the "Brian May Guitars" company, Guild or another? I've seen used ones on eBay from $450 to $1,000 and the Guild versions at $2,000+.

I'd actually like to buy a used one but I have no idea what to look for in one of his guitars or which version may be better than others. I'm partial to the white ones.

To me, that guitar looks funny in anything but red. But, that's just me.....funny thing is, I don't care much for red guitars.
