New Amp Day! Twin content...and the rest of the gang.

Postby huffman83 » Wed Feb 23, 2011 7:46 pm

Came accross a 76 Fender Twin w/ JBL-d120F speakers. I couldn't pass it up, so I traded a Marshall DSL50 head (So it's bittersweet.)

While taking some photos, I figured I'd show a picture of the whole gang.

If you want Clean, Twin + JBL D120 will give it to you to ear splittingly loud.

Great amp, congratulations. I've had the chance to play through a TR with D120s a few times and they sound great, and get better the louder you go.

So after a few days, I've been able to crank the amp and get a feel for her. I know twins aren't known for being overdrive monsters by any means, but this thing DOES NOT break up at all! And what little it does....it sounds like crap. But as far as a CLEAN sounding amp. It's tits!

I am however going to swap some preamp tubes just to try to get a bit more of my sound w/ it. I like being able to control my grit w/ the volume knob. I'm not a purist when it comes to surf tones!

Try a booster to drive the preamp a bit harder. What sound are you really going for? A TR should be able to get a very good crunch and classic rock tones .It has a master volume and maybe a push /pull pot try that.

Oh I've tried all of that. Putting an OD kind of boosts it too much. I can't seem to find the balance.

I've essentially found "my sound." w/ my Quad Reverb which is my main amp right now. Someone modded it w/ a 2nd master volume. So I can blend in the amount of preamp and power amp grit that I want.
