The Ramones?

He used the Hamer on TV when they first toured Australia in 1980. I didn't know what a Mosrite was back then but I knew the Hamer wasn't his regular guitar. I also remember standing right in front of Johnny at their first Sydney show and I spent most of the time trying to get a good look at his guitar so I could figure out what it was. With all the pushing and shoving I couldn't make out much but I knew it wasn't a Strat or anything like that.
Still, I managed to score two of his picks.

yeah, Johnny played a few guitars that did not bare the mosrite name, i.e. fender, rickenbacker, hamer, but never did he play a univox. in fact johnny ramone is arguable as important to the mosrite name and legacy as Nokie Edwards or Joe Maphis.

Maybe got Johnny mixed up with Kurt Cobain??

What I meant to say was, maybe Univoxer was thinking of Cobain playing the Univox, not Johnny, but possibly got them confused.....
P.S. I'm VERY FAMILIAR with the 'other guitars' that Johnny played when he wasn't playing his MARK II .

Ha, I'm 64 and have never heard music of the Ramones as far as I know, but I'm already starting to like them!!!

Well if you want to take on a whole new quality of life, then I recommend you listen to the Ramones IMMEDIATELY! Everything will seem so much better afterwards.
That's how it worked for me anyways.

Hey i think the Ramones added something to the Mosrite mystic but thats about it. (I think Johnny said he bought his because 1. cheap 2. "ugly" ). Considering most of the Mosrites ever made where made bought and sold before the Ramones even started!! I would say that the Ventures are far more important to Mosrite. After the Ramones where playing them Mosrite couldn't
say afloat that was not a problem in the halcyon Ventures endorsement days. but i will say that The Ramones helped make Mosrite cool and cutting edge and it is ironic that a guitar made for virtuosos was played by "punk" band.

I disagree. Johnny had several mosrite models made for him, just the same as Nokie. and spawned a ton of musician to use mosrite. in the CBGB days Lou Reed tried to get Johnny to switch over to Richenbacker's, but Johnny really preferred mosrites. his said he picked a mosrite because it was cheap and ugly, but also for it's uniqueness.
the ventures may have been more important in the since that they got Mosrite off there feet, but the ramones carried that touch far pass 60's surf music.
and just because punk music is really a form of music that is anti-virtuosos, doesn't mean it's not hard to play.

I agree Johnny knew the coolness factor of Mosrite and liked them. Also I agree
that The Ventures did ''get Mosrite off their feet" which is important. If that endorsement deal hadn't been struck, the guitar Johnny got that fateful day may
never have been built. The Ramones, MC5, Iron Butterfly, Stooges, Davie Allan all had Mosrites in their arsenals the Ramones being the most prolific and popular did, I think expose a lot of people to the Mosrite, which is great! One more thing,
punk is anti-virtuoso, Mosrites were inspired buy virtuosos that's ironic...that's all.
punk is very tuff to play properly... I mean check out Mike Watt's bass on the fIRHOUSE/Minteumen albums some would say he is a virtuoso..

yeah, "sheena is a punk rocker" is very beach boys sounding song. what always amazed me about the ramones is how hard they played live, with no song breaks, hour long shows, and made it look easy. the stuff Marky Ramone would do on the drums by itself would make my eyes bulge .
