so i went down to my local lowes and picked up a pine threshold board. but what was cool is I found a piece with really kick butt figuring in it. so using the broken threshold as a template, and cut this board. I then pulling out my mohawk powder stain/toner, or whatever you call it, royal blue. I mixed a little bit of it up with some regular old midwax natural stain and rubbed out the board. at first it was so blue I couldn't see the grain. the stain is powerful! so I then pulled some of the extra color out by rubbing it out with a tiny bit of mineral spirits. and wah-la! it looked great! I loved the look of it, it almost looked like waves of water!. too bad it couldn't have been on a guitar

i clear coated it with a little bit of nitro, but switched over to using a spray gloss spar varnish for durability. here's some pics I took.
