Hey--
You may already have seen this; it's pretty famous:

Over 6.6 million hits. United Airlines, I'm sure, wishes they had never heard of this guy.
Another funny video in response:

Re: Flying With Guitars
Warning!
Archive thread dug up because 'might be out of town for some weeks with work...and subject was being looked into.
Immediate thought is to ship an instrument UPS in corrugated shipping box, in case with some dunnage, tuned down, to the hotel, bypassing the airlines. Buy a cheap amp at destination and sell it back upon leaving.
Anyone have other thoughts?

Nice videos, thanks for posting...
UA is not the only one, EVA Air broke my baby Taylor and refused to pay..
Luckily, I bought it with my American Express Card and got my money back from them.
BTW, Taylor T5 ain't no $500 guitar.
UPS broke my guitar display case and I had to fight with bunch of idiots to get 90% refund

Re: Flying With Guitars
I feel for anyone who must transport an instrument out of their direct supervision. It seems this is one of those "fire and water" combinations.
Many music companies have quit UPS entirely, due to the high percentages of damaged instruments. I built a headless gigging guitar that fits in my big wheel-equipped suitcase, with lots of shirts, gotch and socks packed around it...as long as the suitcase doesn't go to Hong Kong when I'm going to Vancouver,
it seems to work fine. The other approach is the "roadie" case...expensive, but then so is your instrument!
