Hey, Mel--

I still have a stack of old Mads-- some going back to the comic-book days-- and some of the paperbacks, too. I read them over and over as a kid.

When I was lucky enough to meet Mad's publisher Bill Gaines in New York, when I was consulting for Marvel, he said, "You should pay me 10% of your salary for sparking your career!" I had to agree that reading Mad and paying attention to ad-spoof fonts and layouts had indeed sparked my interest in graphic design and production, but he wasn't getting any 10%!!!

He was a hoot and I was lucky to meet him.
