Re: Here Ya' Go.........For the Bird Lovers......
yeah the one true common element I've noticed with all parrots is that they are mischievous. Most of the time I have a very close bond with peaches and we whistle a lot to each other, but there are times he can be a royal pain in the butt. Moluccans are the one species that is suppose to be the LOUDEST of all the parrots, and when they scream, it can be heard as far as three miles away. these birding also typically do a lot of squawkin’ in the morning and right when the sun goes down. sometimes I got to blast a marshall amp just to not listen to it, lol.
One trick we taught peaches is when he's on his perch is to swing upside down on a branch, and fall backwards doing this. after we got him to do that we trained him to a cue, which was holding out my hand like a gun pretending to shoot and say "I GOT YOU!"
when he was younger I use to tease him, because late at night I could be watching TV and he would fall asleep on that perch, and I would then make a loud noise to wake him up suddenly, like a smack on a leather couch with my hand. well the joke was on me because he remembered that crap and when I would doze off on the couch suddenly I heard one LOUD single "SQUAWK!!!"
Moluccans do talk like all parrots, but from my understanding the african grey are to biggest talkers, but not only do they talk, but they imitate sounds. he's even imitate the dogs barking, a truck driving down the road, called the dogs by name and tell them to come, and his favorite, is the sound of the dogs squeaky toy. Of course you can imagine that excitement, as the dogs look around for a squeaky toy that isn’t there.
One expensive thing with parrots is toys. Since they have such an active brain you must keep them busy at all times, because if not they become stressed and can turn destructive, or even pull out there own feathers. well bird toys are quite expensive when you understand that they can cost 10-20 a piece and can rip one apart in a matter of minutes sometimes, so we began buying old baby toys from second hand stores to save. I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about, the kind with a bunch of buttons that light up and make noises? well.....Peaches never understood why he got some toys like this, and why us adults had our own. Of course our toys like this are called TV remote controls....... I'll let your imagination finish the rest of this story...
I'm still looking for replacement remotes, lol.
