OK, since you asked: besides collectiong vintage Mosrite and Fender guitars I love to drive fast. And the car that turns my crank the most is the Dodge Viper, of which I own three. I have driven on several race tracks including the Texas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Portland International Raceway and Pacific Raceway near Seattle. I have also run the Silver State Classic in Nevada (a 90 mile open road race) where I averaged 152 mph and reached speeds of 170 mph.

Cars and guitars aside, I am an avid wildlife photographer and in the past have been published in nearly every wildlife magazine, some books and calendars. I spend hours and hours nearly every week out in a marsh or up on a mountain with my camera gear. Here are some samples.

You can see much more of all of the above on my website (still under construction) at

Wow, Bob, you're a regular renaissance man! Those photos are beautiful. Do you use a digital or 35mm camera? I assume you need a pretty strong telephoto lense for those kinds of shots.

Have you ever considered melding all these interests together? You could take photos of automobile/guitar pairs with avian names: a Ford/Gibson Thunderbird; a Ford/Gretsch Falcon (in white or black) Are there others?

Thanks for the compliment. I use Canon digital cameras (40D's) and big fast lenses - 600mm, 500mm, 300mm and some shorter ones. Its probably the most enjoyable thing I do. And no, I have not considered combining all of my interests - but you have a wild imagination.

Yes there are, even pretty cool ones:

Fender/Ford Mustang
Fender Jaguar / Jaguar (of which E-Type would be nice)

... and let's not forget these:

Mosrite/Ford Ranger
Mosrite/Toyota Mark II

:D
This concludes my report from outer space. Now, back to studio!

I was thinking about strictly bird names. Thunderbird, falcon, I suppose there's the AMC Eagle, and come to think of it Studebaker made a Hawk, though I can't think of guitars with those names off the top of my head.

Ha! I was about to post "Firebird", but I don't think there really is such a bird (excluding the Pontiac/Gibson connection, all the others are "real" birds), unless Igor Stravinski was on to something.
Bob, really great shots. I did quite a bit of landscape photography using large format view cameras at one time, mostly black and white Ansel Adams/Edward Weston influenced stuff. My wife has some of my work hanging on the walls of our house.
Right now, we have a small e-commerce business-a plant nursery specializing in exotic carnivorous plants called Sunbelle Exotics.

Oh yes, that's right, I missed the "avian" word in your message. My bad.

Gibson The Hawk! From the Nighthawk models.

If I ever design a custom surf guitar and have somebody make a couple of them, I'll name the model Silver Hawk (after our band The Silver Hawks). :D
