It has always been said that the name mos-rite came from Moseley-Boatwright but here is some(geek)thing to ponder. Look at this scan of a paper insert included with a 1955 Rickenbacker steel. Note bottom right hand corner I placed a sticker that had come off one of the legs of the steel. Seeing as though Semie was working at Rickenbacker at this time is it possible the origin of the name was influenced by this?

Might have been influenced on the spelling, but in Semie's own words "I named the company after myself and after Ray Boatright ..." (American Guitars by Tom Wheeler, p. 279)

...indeed, with this company slogan possibly at the back of Rickenbacker-employees' heads...so when a reverend Boatwright later appeared on the Moseley scene the link-up was easy after a slight spelling 'mod' who can tell?

I think that was common in the 1950's to have "rite" after all kinds of things in advertising.

I think Sarah is rite, er..right.

It is very similar to today's usage of LITE.

"Mosrite Lite". I think you could be onto something.
