If You Had an Album...

[color=#008000]Theoretical fun, for a minute or five.

A fantasy...You have just won the opportunity to have a cover album produced and recorded for free. Style must be a la any or all of Ventures / Shadows / Chet / surf groups...

...what up to about 20 songs would you, as lead guitarist (your or producer will furnish bass, drums, rhythm players...

...put on the disk?

"The Haole Jim Album" might well have:

Walk Don't Run
Moonlight Serenade
Bossalou / Miserlou
Harlem Nocturne
Perfidia
Theme From The Endless ummer
Sleepwalk
Wild As The Sea
Summertime
Kon-Tiki
Night Train
Desifinado
Scotch & Soda
The Carnival Is Over
Spanish Blue
Apache
The Stranger
Blue Tango
Quiet Village
I'll Never Find Another You

How's 'bout youse pickers?

...I could do lead duties on the following instrumentals:

Shadows:
GONZALES, SANTA ANA, SWEET DREAMS, THE FRIGHTENED CITY, FOOT TAPPER, DANCE ON, SHINDIG, PERFIDIA
SLEEPWALK, THEME FOR YOUNG LOVERS, WONDERFUL LAND, BIG BOY

Ventures:
SURF RIDER, BULLDOG, ESCAPE, JOURNEY TO THE STARS, LONELY GIRL
Others:
THE SPOTNICKS THEME (The Spotnicks)
MOONSHOT (The Spotnicks)
LAST SPACE TRAIN (The Spotnicks)
LOVESICK BLUES (The Spotnicks)
LAST DATE (The Spotnicks)
BAJA (The Astronauts)

...not sure if anyone will buy my cd, even if it does include 3 bonus tracks

2. CASBAH..SANDY NELSON VERSION
3. THE FUGITIVE..THE VENTURES
4. ACTION ON THE STREET.. DAVIE ALLAN
5. SWINGING CREEPER..THE VENTURES
6. MUSTANG..JERRY COLE
7. ATTACK OF ROBOT ATOMICO..THE GASHTLY ONES
8. PSYCHODESTRUCT..THE SWITCH TROUT
9. CLIMBING A HIGH WALL.. LINK WRAY
10. SAIGON..THE VENTURES
11. MISSING LINK..DAVIE ALLAN
12. I SAID, SHE SAID, AH CID..ANIMATED EGG/ JERRY COLE
13. ENDLESS DREAM..THE VENTURES
14. SUNSHINE OF YOUR LOVE..VENTURES VERSION
15 THIRD STONE FROM THE SUN..JIMI HENDRIX

Brutus, El Ray has since the early days (and still do) played Richie Podolar's Casbah. Such a fine and strong song. You can hear it here: Casbah - El Ray's version

I just had a listen, and boy, we play that song way faster today.

And check this out ;-) -> I have a handwritten letter from Mel somewhere around here from 2001 allowing us to record the Los Mel-Tones' track 'Poseidon'. It ended up on our debut album and sounded very garage-rock surf'ish, haha. Remember Mel?
