Hot pilots and pud knockers

In the movie, "The Right Stuff," Ms. Pancho Barnes, who ran the bar near Edwards AFB, told two new customers, "We get two kinds of customers here, hot pilots and pudknockers...now, what are you pud knockers drinking?" (Ms Florence Barnes was a record-setting hot pilot, on her own)
So, Hot-Pilots-Who-Build-Magnificent-Guitars...where does a TRUE pudknocker who wants to build a solidbody electric guitar begin?

Whether building a solid body or a carved archtop there is a wealth of luthier information in the
How to build an Archtop Guitar by Bob Benedetto. He also has a 5 VHS set (remember them?) on the same subject.
He is my hero!

Bob is a nice and a talented man. He was my guitar tech back in the mid-1980s when he worked out of his house in Safety Harbor, Florida. He would show me archtops that he was building and I frankly didn't believe him at first!
It had never dawned on me that a person could do such a thing on their own.
Later, when he became well known, it didn't surprise me. He is just a wealth of knowledge and so skilled.
