Another all time great now gone. His Shaft theme was really cool. Shaft

Warning, resurrected thread!

Yes, it was weird to hear when Isaac Hayes passed. He seemed to be the way-far-out super-funky,ultra-hip bandleader way back when, a rather visible contrast to disco and Chris Kraft.

Isaac's own sense of style and macho-cool was so huge, it would not even begin to fit in a Greyhound bus with all the seats removed. And he did not have to scream or cuss...he was way too much the hep cat for that. Thanks for the memory.

The Ventures recorded their cover of Shaft in 1971 and they even released an album the following year with the hit as main theme and album title.
Some cool words from Haole Jim there too...although I prefer text generally to be in black -offering more contrast which is good for my aging eyes and making for clearer reading  ..... ;)

Yep, Isaac left his mark alright.

The Ventures had to work to make that cover work, but pulled it off and acknowledged the importance of the piece by, as noted, making it the album title. Isaac Hayes conducted a large ensemble and used its breadth and depth to deliver the tonal complexity of the "Shaft" theme. Pity the flicks were such tripe; Hayes' music deserved better foreground.
