Reality bites.

So there I was back in June just cruising along enjoying life and playing my Mosrites when out of the blue I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Four weeks ago I had surgery to get it removed and thankfully they got it all and I'm in the clear. At the moment I'm recovering and have to take it easy for 6 weeks or so but my message is that if any of you forum members are in the age group where it becomes a concern and are dithering about whether or not to get tested, then my advice is do it. I had no symptoms at all and it was just through a routine blood test that mine was caught in time. I'm 52 and while most people I've talked to say that's fairly young to get it, I recently met one guy who is in his late 40's and he also had it earlier this year. I don't want to scare anyone, but just don't go on thinking " it won't happen to me " because that's what I did and I was wrong.

Gosh Bill, that must've been scary! I was wondering just the other day how things might be with our man 'down under' because we hadn't heard from him for quite a while.
Yes, one never knows what can be lurking inside one's bod at any given time but having regular checkups is sound advice. Good to hear it's all behind you now and so ya can get back to your Mo's and enjoy 'em!

Thanks Paul. It's good to be back in the 'normal ' world after going through the post op period which isn't the most fun I've had. I've certainly given a few friends something to think about from my experience that's for sure.

Sorry to hear it but glad to hear you're on the mend. My father just went through that about a year ago. Seems to be an awful lot of cancer going around these days. Maybe it's just 'cause I'm getting older and therefore more common for me to be hearing about it. We've lost a few from my graduating HS class already. They didn't even make it to 40, really gets ya thinking. Feel better!

Hey Mosman,

Glad to hear it was caught early and taken care of. Truly an eye opener that everyone should be aware and encouraged to get the PSA screening. I lost my brother in law two years ago to prostrate cancer as it wasn't found until too late. He didn't have a clue that anything was wrong.

Sorry to hear about your brother-in-law Danny but that's one of the nasty aspects of the disease: by the time you think something's wrong it usually too late. After I was diagnosed I became aware of the fact that nearly 100% of the people I told knew someone who had the same problem. I found this amazing and I had no idea it was this big an issue. I certainly know now however.

At 62 I'm ten years out from my own dance with prostate cancer. Mine was also caught very early and I had the surgery also. My best to you and hope it all works outs as well as mine did. Only real issue, if one could call it that is the occasional "stress incontinence" from lifting both the Mosrite and the Fender amp at the same time .
