Hey--

I have never eaten a Big Mac, because they are made with a mayonnaise-based sauce, which I refuse to eat.

But I have demolished my share of Quarter-Pounders with cheese and the recent variants. My favorite McDonalds' fare is the McRib, which seems to be a sporadic offering. Their restaurants aren't numerous in downtown DC, where I work, so I seldom eat there nowadays.

I bet more than a couple of us on the forum remember when going to a place like McDonalds was a rare treat.

Does anyone here know why the chain named a sandwich after one of the two original McDonald brothers, but not the other one?

I've never heard that one but I will take a wild guess. Since Richard "Dick" MacDonald and Maurice "Mac" MacDonald were the original brothers I am guessing that Mac's name lends itself a little better for a sandwich name. Just sayin'.

I went through a vegetarian phase when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I wouldn't eat beef, chicken, fish, etc. I would eat McDonald's Filet o' Fish, because in my youthful logic, it couldn't be fish since it was square. I still order one every now and again for nostalgia's sake. Otherwise, the fast food of choice around here is Burger King, since my 8 year old daughter won't eat meat, but she likes BK chicken nuggets. Apple didn't fall far from the tree...

My great friend in high school, who lived with us, was from Korea. He loved the Filet o' Fish, but he always pronounced it "flat fish" when he ordered one.

To me, that was actually a better name for that sandwich. That fish was nothing if not flat.
