Those Bridgepost screws (in the PIC) have threads on the outer side of the screws themselves. And what I'm trying to describe, is that THOSE Bridgepost Screws are designed to have an Acorn Nut on them to "Hold down" or "Lockdown" the Bridge itself, so as to when using the Vib/Trem System, it 'will not rock' back and forth, thus putting the guitar out of tune or throwing the intonation out...........That is what is on my '88.....and "IT WORKS BEAUTIFULLY!!!!" ;)

AH, now I get it! Yes, these bridgepost screws are designed for the acorn nut to lock the bridge in place. Thankfully I don't have tuning issues, but I wonder, do you find having the acorn nuts on affects sustain at all? They'd make the connection between the bridge post and bridge base more solid, so you'd figure it would have some kind of effect.

Neither of my original Mosrites nor my clones have provisions for acorn locking posts and none of them go out of tune. All are strung up with 10-46s too.

I have my bridge locked down to try to improve the sustain and not to help with tuning. I believe that a more solid bridge does help but it is a Mosrite and you will never get the sustain of say a Les Paul.

Yes, having the acorns locking the bridge in such that it does not move, definitely gives the guitar more sustain ;) .

Danny, to the best of my knowledge (maybe Adam will chime in), Semie started putting the threaded bridgepost screws on his guitars sometime in the mid to late 80s. And it definitely does help the Sustain since the Bridge is now 'fused' to the base plate 'as one.'

Jim, this is one of those 'famous phrases' that You, I, and probably a mess load of other people have grown to accept after hearing it so many times over the years. But in reality, we all have to compare 'apples with apples.' Nobody compares a Strat against a L.P. because they are 2 different guitars. Well, same thing with the Mosrite, but people still do, because they are not familiar with the Mo.' True, a Mosrite will never get the sustain of a L.P.....OK, but now if you install some thicker frets and a set of Humbucking Pickups like on an L.P. then we now have a fair comparison  . My '88 is equipped as such, and yes, I'll put her up against anything that's out there on the market  . I only have one LP left in my 'stable,' and I ended up selling my PRS. Don't get me wrong, my other LPs and PRS were nice guitars, but I no longer needed them once I got this '88 GEM. Like any other guitar, if a Mosrite is built with the right materials for sustain, then she can go up against the best of them. MINE is LIVING PROOF ;) .
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

Mosrites and Paul's are definitely dis-similar beasts, from the ground up. Paul's being HB and mahogany body/neck. Material wise, the Mosrite would be more similar to a Strat..Alder/ash body w/maple neck. But there again, to me, that's where the similarities end. I think each guitar is of it's own class and uniqueness. JMO

Don't get me wrong about the Les Paul. I love the Mosrite for it's sound and looks and could care less if it sustains like a Les Paul. I owned a Les Paul years ago and although it was a beautiful guitar I didn't care for it. On the other hand I could never bond with a Fender of any model and I have owned several of them. (Telly's and Strats) I have 2 main Passions in guitars and they are Mosrite's and GreTsch hollow bodies.

LOL! Nawh, I didn't read ya wrong, my point was that if Semie had put at least medium jumbo frets on the neck, and had put Humbuckers on the guitar as an option back in the late 60s, we might of have seen a lot more musicians playing Mosrites. But that would not be available as a regular option until the early 70s (although there are some late 60s Custom Orders with early humbuckers). My point was that the Mosrite guitar can sustain as well as all the others, when it is set up, and built in that vein ;) .

Hi there. My first post after my introduction. I'll get to the point.
I'm building a Mosrite Ventures Clone. I got the neck 10 years ago off a Celebrity 3-model. It's total width is 2+1/16" at the "bottom", towards the bridge so to speak.
So I just want to know. This is a standard Mosrite Neck right? And the Hallmark bridge has string spacing tight enough (like the original) to work on it? I know the Hallmark guitars has a wider neck and just got a bit worried. So before I order a bridge from them, I thought I'd ask... No other bridge is tight enough to work, at least none I've seen.

Thankful for reply. When the clone is done I'm going looking for a proper Mosrite to complete the collection. And I hope to become a regular at the forums.

The Hallmark has a string spacing of exactly 2 inches. Both my original Mosrite Ventures models '64 and '66, have a string spacing of 1 7/8 inches.

Just for everyone's information, the Japanese Excellent Mosrite bridge has a string spacing of 2 inches. Someone with a Fillmore reissue Mosrite should measure theirs and post it here on the forum.
