"Over on another forum someone asked about what an ideal bass would be. My first bass is a Mosrite Ventures and I now use a Modulus Q5 as my "main' bass. I responded that I would like to have a Mosrite body with a Modulus-style graphite neck (original headstock shape of course) in a 5 or 6-string configuration."

Interesting concept....a Mosphite.....
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

That sounds like a great idea Kevin. I'll just continue the thread as I get the rest of the bass together.

Well since I got the ok to hijack I got the wood for your body and a couple other bodies today. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll have 3 body blanks ready for shaping. I also ordered my new Whiteside up cut spiral bit today as well so goodbye to tear out.

I've been trying to get this done in a reasonable ammount of time for Rick but time and weather has not been on my side. But the body blank is glued and sanded and ready to cut. Even bought one of these to reduce tearout it cost a lot but it'll be worth it.

I'll let you know, I've talked to several people who swear by them and I got tired of messing up perfectly good wood on tear out that's hard to repair. So the pros far out weigh the cons.

this bit seems to be really nice ,there is another version with bearing up and down and with you can really avoid tear out
but i am really scare by them in fact  (the hight of cut make me really scare for my fingers)
to avoid at maximum the tear out i cut as near the line as i can to let only 1 mm to rout with the bit (and even the wood is a tear out wood :o i use a copy ring with diameter just upper to make the final routing very light ,copy ring Ø 18 and bit Ø 16 mm for exemple to have an idea how it work ,the more nightmare i have is an ash blank i use for my jazzmaster :o for the arm cut a tear out ,a really big big tear out that i haven't seen why ,less than 1 second the ash delaminated  )

I'm taking full advantage of the weather today to work on Ricks body. So far I've got the template cut from the 1/4" masonite material then trued the edges up on my oscilating spindle sander then refined the outline by hand. As a side note the tracing that Rick sent me was on gold wrapping paper that had a brown back like a paper shopping bag. From there I started making my working template from 3/4" mdf. Then it was time to have some fun with the new bit (btw Aaron this bit worked great!).

Then from there I got my 1/2" cove bit set up in the router table to make 1 of 3 passes.

Then gave the back a 1/4" round over.

I'm taking lunch now and hope to have this wrapped up today.
