It's finally done and ready to send. I started off with my 5 inch disc sander to remove the bulk of the wood then finished off with chisels and lots of hand sanding. First with 80 grit then finishing off with 220. You're probably wondering why there's no cavities, Rick is going to rout his own neck pocket, pickup and control cavities.

Kevin, the body looks awesome! I can't wait to get this bass put together. I'll be ordering the neck this week and I'll post some pics when it arrives. I'm hoping to be able to build a Mosrite-style tailpiece and bridge but I'll see how the measurements work out. I'm thinking of making a pickguard also to keep the original-looking theme going, but there will probably be active electronics underneath it.

I received the body on Monday. I was a little nervous because the box had a couple of holes in it but the wood was undamaged. I'm doing a little additional contouring on the upper horn to try to bring out more of the original shape. It's nice to have an original to use as a model. The neck was ordered a week ago so I hope to be getting some shipping info on that in a week or so.

Excellent I'm glad it arrived there safely hope you enjoy it. I tried to get the contours as close as I could from memory. Over all how close would you say it is as far as shape and carve. I haven't done a bass body before :)

The overal shape and carve look really good. I did tracings of the pickguard today and when I put it on the body I noticed that the lower horn pointy piece can be tapered back some more. I'll post some pics of that also.

Tomorrow I should get the tracings of the headstock.

I moticed a couple of interesting things about the original pickguard. The underside looks like it may have originally been light mint green rather than white. The top of the guard has taken on a nice aged yellow look. I also remembered that they did a poor job of installing the pickguard. There is a block of wood stuck down in the control cavity routing next to one of the pickguard holes because the hole was too close to the edge, and one the screws up by the pickup is also too close to the hole and doesn't have anything to bite into.

I'm still waiting on the neck. I'm going to call Carvin if I don't hear something by Tuesday. I'm trying to track down some tools for finishing the shaping on the horns. There is a local woodworking supply shop that I'm going to visit on Tuesday. I have a router but nothing good ever happens when I use it.

Kevin, I mailed some tracings this week. Just remember that the headstock tracing was drawn from the back so turn it over to get the right orientation from the front.
