oipunkguy wrote:personally i like to trace out templates using a mechanical pencil because it's more accurate. what i do is just trace out the neck as normal. then at the nut mark it at the distance you would perfer. then just draw a straight like using a ruler or whatever to where the lines met up on the neck farther done. it's not a hugh difference actually. it won't affect the neck pocket at all. it you were to try this you would probably follow it better then i can explain it here. if you have a mosrite you can use to take specs from it, i find that it helps a lot if you are new to guitar building.
one of these days i'm going to make a new neck template so it makes the job a little easier.
I get it. I imagine it just makes the heel / pocket fit a hair more snug, which is a good thing.
Thanks!

Re: flamey maple mosrite project
well be careful with that thinking, i made that mistake on my ramones build. i made the neck too wide at the end of the neck, and so i just routed the neck pocket wider, no problem. it was all covered up with the guard anyway. what i didnt think about was the string spacing on the bridge. since you cant make those adjustments on a mosrite bridge my neck ended up being too wide at the end of the neck. its not terrible to the point i cant play the guitar, but it does annoy me a little.
i plan to make another one day, so i dont have that problem, but in the meantime i've been stroked about this build. my suggestion, stick with the neck pocket on the template, and make your mod before you get to that point.

Re: flamey maple mosrite project
I helped one of the guys from the forum make a mosrite clone, kind of coppied Nokies model withthe bird's eye mapel top wallnut back and a through neck using mapel wallnut and purple heart. Used heat to bend the wood into the shape he desired. I must say it came out great and sounded great also. I wanted him to do the picture thing on the forum, but I guess he was too shy. Since then he has moved away and I haven't herd from him since. Too bad those were good times.
