Re: Star Swirl *** 1st build
I trimmed the bottom of the headstock and fortunately the rot does not come all the way through. I will use bob shade's method of repair and post pics later. Im tired now. Maybe time to call it a night.

Re: Star Swirl *** 1st build
The other side of the headstock has no visible rot.

another ice storm

clamps

Thin super glue 3 layers applied into the cavernous crack

After about 3 hours and several layers had cured, I used the cheaper thicker stuff to fill up the gap

I thought superglue was supposed to harden quickly...

and 12 layers thick

Still not filled all the way. But I'm confident most of the pores and crannies have been filled underneath.
Thanks Bob Shade thanks Black for the suggestions. I can move on to sanding down the headstock.
My car has been stuck in an Icy rut for the last two days despite my attempts to extract it. Boards underneath the tires. My Dads pickup and a chain. Pushing it. AAA decided my situation is not an "emergency" so I have been waiting around half the day for them to show up.... Plenty of time to work on my guitar I guess.

Looking good! I've enjoyed this thread.
I think it would look cool to get that rot completely filled with CA and leave it visible, as long as your headstock stays thick enough.
Hope you got your car situation figured out. Good luck with the rest of this build! I'll be paying attention.

Thankyou loopy. AAA got my rust bucket out of the icy grave later that evening. I have been sanding the neck and snapping a few picks on occasion. My computer/phone has been acting up so I have not been able to load photos. Everything is lop-sided and a lil' off kilter

TDPRI is a freakin' goldmine for this sort of thing. I used the "facets" method outlined in this thread for the two neck builds I've done so far and all I can say is that it works pretty darn well.

Re: Star Swirl *** 1st build
Alright been doin' stuff. Sanding mostly. Some parts came out ok. Pics mostly self explanatory. GOOO!!
filling mistakes

later that day found a 12" Eminence at Music Go round. (LOVE THAT PLACE)

Went over to my buddy cliff's to use his belt sander that weekend. Home Depot Sanding belts are expensive! Headstock came out a little crooked and neck thinner than I wanted. It was around 7 degrees in his Warehouse and I wanted to get out of there ASAP! should have taken my time.

Later at home tried to make a jig to help with sanding straight.

neck slants toward the Bass side a bit. hope it does not keep the Guitar from staying in tune.

sanding the head flat on my Granite block. I want the tuning pegs even as possible.

low spots

ready

sand sand sand

While I sanded this Video was playing constantly. Cant stop listening to the Shivas! (also cant remember how to get this to show up in a window)
enjoy the manic energy.

Acceptable
to do: peg holes. neck shape (deep dread fills me). frets. string guide
that is all.

Sorry everyone. This month presented an extra helping of woe.
FEBUARY
Things were coming along relatively smoothly. Peg holes were drilled.

MARCH
And then this this happened.

Stripped out Rack & Pinion assembly on an already railing +20 year old civic.

Forcing me to use this as transportation in the middle of winter

Resulting in an accident due to BLACK ICE a railroad crossing last week. Trashing both my bike and my left wrist.

I am told by my physician I have a possibly torn triangular fibrocartllage ligament in my wrist.

Which hopefully will not require surgery but for the moment renders my fretting hand useless and in extreme pain. I'm in a full cast for at least 4-6 weeks. Wont be building or playing for at least a couple of months. What a way to kick off the summer. No transportation and a broken body.

I leave you with this
