I'm hoping someone can tell me how to do this. I would like to look at the pots in my Celebrity and hopefully see the date on them. Looking at the pickguard it all looks pretty straight forward with just a few screws, etc. The only thing that isn't obvious to me is how to remove the two knobs. I tried lifting up on them with my fingers but they did not budge and I don't want to hurt anything. So, if someone would kindly tell me how to do that, it would be awesome!
thank you,
Sarah

I usually slide a rag underneath the knob, pull the two ends together so they are wrapped around the pole, and gently wiggle upwards.

two spoons also work if you're careful not to scuff the knobs or pickguard. try the rag technique first.

You have just raised the suspense level Sarah ...can hardly wait for you to share your findings!

PS. BTW, I once lifted the knobs on one of my Fender Strats one day and did some damage.....

Oh that's a big problem! If I break a nail that would be all bad!

Sarah,
If you are just trying to check the S/Ns on the pots, you don't have to remove the knobs.
Just remove the screws holding the pickguard inplace, and gently lift the guard upwards.
This will expose the pots with the S/Ns (providing there is no solder covering them).....
If you decide to just remove the knobs, hold the pickguard firmly in place with one hand
while you work the knob with the other hand by wiggling it (lifting a little on on side, and
then doing the same thing on the other side).
Holding the p'guard with the one hand will prevent possible stripping of the p'guard screws
being that they are small and it might not take much pressure for that to happen

make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

As usual I do everything the hard way!! Thank you for that tip. I will remember this one for sure! I did succeed in getting the knobs off with a rag as suggested. Your method is way better of course so you don't put pressure on the wood screws and possibly strip out the hole. Anyway, I did not see any number on the pots. Everything was a little grimy under there probably from solder and flux I guess.
Thanks for the great tip!

Re: How to remove the Mosrite knobs?
hey sarah,
you just want to be careful trying to pull off knobs or removing the pick guard on a guitar like this because it's a hollow body.
have fun playing this weekend!
the one thing I always liked about celebrities is they came in unusual colors like a semi-transparent green of orange. if I remember right these were more typical of the late 60's.
