Hey--

Are any of you familiar with these Plek machines? I saw a couple at the Martin factory a while back, and have been wondering a couple of things.

Has anyone had their Mosrite plekked? Did the speed frets present a problem?

Also, since I like the speed frets so much, I wonder if the Plek machine could be set to dress down the frets of a Hallmark 60 Custom to something like a Mosrite speed fret?

Cool video, Dennis! Thanks for sharing.

At the Martin factory, they have an area with these Plek machines, and also have another machine that can scan with precision every variable concerning a player's guitar (though the Plek machine does something similar).

With this other machine, though, players can have a guitar's action nailed down to where another guitar or guitars can absolutely duplicate the feel and playability of the original one.

They also have soundproof vaults where they are trying to capture the acoustic properties of various instruments in order to replicate those precisely, but that is an extremely difficult process and may be beyond the reach of technology, in my opinion.

I've had a couple of Jazzmasters and a telecaster with a very nasty neck warp plek'd and the set-up was perfect, well worth the $$$.
Anything with speed frets, my Mosrite Excellent and 1966 Epiphone Crestwood Custom were done by hand/human.

I'm just going to run out and get one of those for my shop... I've known for some time that a slight amount of relief plays better than a perfectly flat neck, but to achieve this degree of accuracy is quite amazing!
