Make your own nut files, EASY.

Postby panther » Thu May 19, 2011 9:13 pm

I wondered how could I make a set of nut files, when it hit me. Different width hacksaw, saws-all blades etc.
I got several blades from my junk drawer and started to grind and shape. Here are the first 5. I have them hanging right now with the liquid handle coating the end to make them safe to hold.
The hardest one obviously was the .010, but I started with a .025 hacksaw blade, and ground a little at a time and checked often. I used a table belt sander.
Here is a photo of the ground down blades.

That's all I've been using for years to cut the slots then I use a torch tip cleaner to round out the bottom of the slot. They can be had for around $6.00 at Harbor Freight.

I've heard about using torch tip cleaners to round out the bottom.
Hope someone can use the idea.
I've never touched a guitar before 10 months ago, so everything is still new to me.
Dub, could you fix the spelling in the title please, sometimes I get ahead of myself typing.

I ordered me a new set of the torch cleaners. The ones I have are from work, and kinds dirty.
Here is a photo of the coated handles.
