New Pickups for my Mosrite II Slap Body Clone

Postby motiersbad » Thu Mar 22, 2012 5:41 am

Hello all,

first - Sorry for my bad english, i hope you can understand me :)

I want to change the Pickups from my Mosrite II Slap Body Model. I'll buyed it yearsa ago from Zamn Inc, so i think it must be a Kurokumo Model, so i think the Body is Basswood like it should.

The Dimarzio FatStrat was nice, but not enough :D So i changed the Pickups years ago to a Seymour Duncan SH6 in the Neck and a SH4 Jeff Beck in the Bridge - The Sound is nice, but it feels that something is missed and this Pickup-Configuration is not the right for the Guitar - The Sound feels "thin" and "trebly" - Fro Ramones Sound great, but for the rest mmmmh :)

Actuall i'm thinking of replacing the Pickups to P90 Pickups or other Humbuckers like the Seymour Duncan Custom custom. But mmmh which one? Which Pickups have the right Specs to "work" with this light Basswood Body? I use the Mosrite for Gigs as my Main Guitar

Has someone of you changed the Pickups, too?

best regards
Phil

If you're looking for something closer to the tone from the first three Ramones albums, Perhaps you could buy some Hallmark II pickups from Bob Shade. They're used on the Johnny Ramone model Hallmark manufactures. You might want to buy an appropriately-cut pickguard from Hallmark, Too.

Hi,
my information is, that Johnny didnt used his Blue and White Mosrite with the High-Output Singlecoils for revording the first three Albums - He used a Vintage Mosrite Ventures and a Fender Stratocaster

Long time ago i asked Bob and he said, that he would only sell the complete guitar and not parts, has this changed?

thanks and best regards

the live tone was with his mosrite ventures 2, that had those pickups, and to me that's the true early ramones tone. I'm not sure if johnny used a ventures one or not to record the first three albums, but on the first album at least the guitar was going through several marshalls to get that wall of sound tone, so thats a big factor. also if you are using a JMP or a jcm 800, you have to set the tone right on the amp. presence 0-2 bass 10 middle 6 treble 3-4 preamp 10 volume (up to you) if you go by what johnny said is he put his marshall all up on ten, trust me he did not.

on my mkII I replaced the neck pickup with the seymour duncan mini-humucker and in the bridge a rio grande hot mini-humbucker. I couldnt be more happy with the tone on that guitar. the mini-humbuckers have a higher treble response to a regular humbucker, while still maintaining that basic humbucker tone. it really cuts through the mix, but then again so does a mosrite p-90 or humbucker, which is one reason i love the mosrite guitar tone.
