Mosrite Pickup

Postby 50FC » Wed Nov 20, 2013 7:48 am

Hi everybody,

I have a '65 Mosrite that I love and use as my main guitar. Last week during the last part of the concert my sound suddenly changed to thin and less loud - I was playing on the neck pickup.
First I thought it was the amp, then I thought it was the pu switch, but my biggest fear came true : the pickup is broken. Took it to my tech and he said it has to be rewound.

Now what/where would be the best option to have this done ?

kind regards,
Rodrigo -

Have all the solder connections been checked? A loose connection will cause a drop in output. Most times ( not all ) a pickup will work or not. A break in the winding wire will make it not work. A break will not cause a lower volume.

A broken coil wire can cause the pickup to lose volume, if the two ends remain close enough to create a capacitance. The coil will read infinite resistance, but it will still make sound.

Bob Shade at Hallmark or Ed Elliot can repair/rewind it for you if it needs it. There are a few others here that have done pickup repairs as well. I would contact each of them and see what they can do for you.

But as mark1 said, be sure to check all other possibilities first.

Edit: I just noticed that you are on the other side of the pond, so perhaps Oigun can help you as he is in the Netherlands and has repaired these pickups before.

I can repair the pickup for you so it will be good as new. PM me if you are interested.

Best, Bob
