Mosrite pickups in a Gretsch Jet

A few months ago I won a gold Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet in a raffle, and while it's a wonderful-feeling guitar to play the pickups just didn't do it for me. As I just put a set of Ed's pickups in my Mosrite I had a set without a home. So, into the Gretsch they went.

Now it sounds as good as it plays! (if only I could have used the pickup rings, it would have looked better too.) It'll make a great backup for my Mosrite; that is, if I ever get in a band and play a gig.

Fritz,
That's really cool! How are the pickups attached - just screwed into the back of the pickup cavity? Do you have any height adjustment?
For at least some aethstetic effect, you could fill the space in the cavities around the pickups with black foam, like from a mousepad or something.

They are pretty much just screwed down into place. I did have to do some "routing" to get the neck pickup down far enough so it wouldn't hit the strings. There isn't too much height adjustment, but I think I got it pretty close. After the holidays I'll look around for some appropriate material to make some pickup rings. Got any suggestions?

Use some sheet
black plexiglass, it comes in different thickness. You can cut them out with a scroll saw. Just make a paper template of the pickups and cavities and transfer the tracing onto the adhesive paper on the plexiglass and saw out you pattern and drill the holes.

I wasn't sure how it would look with the black pickups and white guard, but it came out far better than I expected; it's meaner, somehow. I'll hunt around for some black plexiglass to finish the look. Thanks for the suggestions guys!
