Songwriters Festival on Music Row here in Nashville, Tn. Mr. Don Chapel a Songwriter Legend. Don was once married to Country Super Star Tammy Wynette. Who later Married George Jones. My job was to work with the house band and also play behind Don Chapel. Don and I work together about twice a month anyway. I knew that The Merle Kilgore Lifetime and Achievement Songwriters Award was going to be given to Don that evening at the Award Show winding up the festival. Merle Kilgore was another Hall Of Fame Songwriter and Singer. He co-wrote "RING OF FIRE" with June Carter Cash and dozens of other hit's. As I got through working with Don the Award folks presented Don with his Award. As I was preparing to leave the stage I heard Steve Kilgore (Merle's son) say "Elaine don't leave just yet". He announced that the Merle Kilgore Festival was including a category of "Musician" in appreciation for the part Musician's play in the process of getting the Song written on Record. They then announced that "Elaine Frizzell" was the winner of the "First Annual Merle Kilgore Musician Award". I was shocked to say the least. But there are sometimes things don't make sense to us.
