I used to play with some of the guys in Shirim / Naftule's Dream back in my college days, and He'brew is definitely available back east.

Uh... as they say, 'My bad!'
I sort of knew it was spelled 'Shirim' but must have forgotten. My language skills dwindle rapidly beyond English.
My girlfriend Kathy used to do publicity photos for Shirim, and that's where I first heard Klezmer. I can listen to it for hours. It has everything I like, but the same ingredients are poured into a different glass.
It boggles my mind that I reached my fifties, and in all that time had only heard that style once, twenty years ago coming over the PA at a Chandler Travis show between sets.
Nobody knew who it was, and I didn't get a chance to ask him. If I had, and he had told me, there is an outside chance that today I might be wearing a black Fedora and fake beard! There is also an outside chance that nobody would notice the difference in my case...
