Another quick story and I will leave this alone, Deke and I were making a trip through Bakersfield years ago and went by the Panama Lane shop and made our way over to other sights, the old Mosrite factory building being one of them. It was freshly demolished and was a vacant lot at this time. I walked around and found a hole in the asphalt and there was a brick and a half from the old Mosrite factory down in it. So I grabbed them and Deke laughed at me. Anyway, he got the half brick and I left my brick at his house accidentally. He sent it to me in the mail wrapped in brown paper from a grocery bag with a drawing on it of a guy holding a brick which stated " Bob is a very sick man" For whatever reason, I took that in a good way too. The brick is in my shop on permanent display. Hey, whatever it takes right?

Great story Bob. And good for you for picking those up. You just never know what will be deemed "valuable" in the future. Years ago my mother and my aunt visited the home they grew up in Arkansas. It had fallen down and disappearing with time. As they walked around the picked up various things. My mother now has a board about 3 feet long from the house and mounted to it are a couple of tools, nails, key, etc that belonged to my Great-Grandfather. I marvel at it each time I see it. My kids will one day appreciate being able to see something that belonged to their ancestor who was born 125 years before they were.

I'm old enough to remember when Gene Winfield was a young man building his cool custom creations. This Hallmark 60 is a nice tribute. I normally don't like green guitars, but this one is a beauty!

This is an old thread, but the sheer beauty of this instrument is amazing. I feel that guitars are akin to the printed art medium: There are posters, and then there are paintings. That guitar is certainly a painting.

Beautiful job, Bob! I'll check out some of Gene's other paint schemes later. You're not sick for taking that brick...when I visited John Fogerty's old studio (a converted house) in Albany, Ca. there was a horse shoe that John had on the wall outside that I had noticed when I met John there a few years earlier. Figuring that the computer design company that was now occupying the former studio probably wouldn't miss it, I liberated it from the premesis and it now is hanging above the door of my music room.
Also, the Packard club (I have a '56 Packard "400" 2 dr. hdtp.) sells wood from the offices of the former Packard assembly plant...I have always thought that the wood might make for an interesting guitar body with a Packard theme. So, even if you are a bit "off" for grabbing that brick, you have lot's of company in the same mindset.

Ok Bob, now you've gone too far with that piece of tin!!! (jk) I looked through images of Gene Winfield cars, I shouldn't do that, that's how I get ideas of guitars to build then end up spending a bunch of money! Saw a few Gold/Pearl White cars, and even a customized Edsel, and a hot rod with an Edsel grille! I've owned a few Edsels, and thought of making a body w/an Edsel theme...one o' these days.....
