Gonna pick up a few different sets this weekend and see what my Hallmark II prefers.
Wanted to get a set of pure nickel strings and see how they sound.

Still flip flopping on gauge. I like the "thump" of 11's on the E,A,D, but like the bendability of the
higher strings with 10's. Might try a heavy bottom set.


..so what kind of strings are your Hallmarks sporting??

We use both GHS Boomer 10's and D'Addarrio 10's when we can't get GHS. We recommend GHS Boomers with the re-enforced ends for lots of vibrato action.

Yep....Boomers are on my list to try.

I put some Webstring 11's on the other night. I'm used to the 11's on my other guitars, but
I think the Hallmark II is wanting 10's. It just felt a little easier to play with the lighter gauge.

I use 9's on my Hallmark, not on any other guitar though. I like the feel of the strings coupled with the bridge set-up; really unique. Also, thin strings through a cranked amp make a huge sound, and when clean, a really bright sound.

I've always bought into the BIG STRINGS = BIG TONE, and that's true on my Gretsches, but I think I have to rethink that on this Hallmark!

Might pick up some 9's while I'm experimenting.

GHS Boomer TNTs (10-52) - on my 60 Custom, they are the perfect gauge for me. I do a lot of double drop D tuning on this guitar for Crazy Horse stuff and the extra meat on the low strings really helps kill any rattle or buzz.

Been using Curt Mangan Pure Nickle 10-46. I find they hold their tone longer than D'Addario's so I use them on all my guitars
11-48 on my Gretsch 6120 and 10-52 on my strat. Sometimes I will make a custom 11-52 set and put them on the Gretsch.

I personally would not use 9's on the Hallmark if your used to 10's. You need a light touch, if it floats your boat fine but I find if you chord with a heavy hand it sounds out of tune.

Yep, definitely nothing lower than 10's for me. I use 11's on my Gretsches, so even 10's feel a tad light to me.
I put a set of 10-46 Boomers on my Hallmark II, and I'm digging them. Might have to get a set of 10-52's though. I dig the THUNK of the heavier lower strings.

THUNK IS GOOD

I use 11's with a wound 3rd on all my guitars. I just love the sound of a wound 3rd.
