Ive been offered supposedly a 1963 ventures model serial #2964 this seems like a later serial #.
how do I tell and what would be a reasonable offer to make?
oh ya it has the orginal case and is near perfect.this fellows mother had a music store years ago
and has a bunch of guitars from when she closed the store and this is one of them.

this one is blonde with tortouise shell pick guard and I think the model # is 2964 not the serial#. i really like this guitar . is it worth 5000 canadian? that is 4000 american at lest it is today march 20 09. this guitar is right off the rack.

Welcome to the Forum Bluesjuice. When ya get a chance, you may want to tell us where you
are from, also are you in a Band, hobbies, etc, etc .
S/N #2964 sounds like it's leaning more towards a '65. The way to tell if it is a '63, look for these clues:
1) Does it have a Glued-in Neck?
2) Is the Output Jack on the side of the body, such as like on a Fender Telecaster (known as a Sidejack)?
3) Do the Pickups have the "Mosrite of California" Logo stamped into them? (Careful, this is a trick question ).
4) Is there Binding on the Body (top) of the guitar itself?
There's more stuff to tell you if it IS a '63, but these are the basic things I would check first, because by
1964, almost all of these features on "the Ventures Model" were now gone .
There was no Blonde Finish Model available or Natural (in case that is what you meant) for 1963.
I believe that this fellow's mother probably got confused with the year's Model.....it happens .

I've played guitar for about forty years . the last fifteen off the road at home.I have a few guitars but always remember the mosrite I played as a child.it is time to find that special guitar again.I'm glad I found this forum. hopefully it will lead me full circle.

Thank you for your welcome.The guitar I'm reseaching i'm starting to think is not as described.1 it has a jack on the pick guard and not on the side. 2 it is white not sunburst .3 the serial # is to high. as far as I understand there was only 200 1963 ventures guitars made. but I'm not quite sure.

Welcome to the forum. If you have pictures, post them here and we'll be able to tell you in much more detail. Depending on the condition and color, even the "topjack" Ventures models can be worth $4000, but that would be on the higher side. Not outrageous for a mint guitar, but high.

A '63 Mosrite is a hand made 'one at a time' built guitar. By '65 they became a mass produced assembly line product made by factory workers. That's why a 64 or earlier is a high dollar collectible. Being hand made there just wasn't that many built. Take a look at the black 66 in Mel's link in the above linked post. It is priced more realistic for a mass production guitar.
