My name is Scott and I live in Southern California. I do not actually play guitars but I have a special one that was given to me. My wife's grandfather built and customized guitars from the 50's through the 80's and gave me a partially finished 60's Mosrite. It is in not the greatest shape but has many original parts. I want to restore this guitar and found your group in hopes that I can glean some guidance in my endeavor.
The body looks like a MKII but the neck is a replacement. I have single coil pickups and a vibramute tremlo but the electronics have been changed to dual volume and tone control. The serial has been painted over(bad paint)and I plan to strip the finish and start from scratch.
This will be a slow process for me even though I'm a machinist. I want to do the job right and pass it on to my kids one day.

Welcome Scott,
what a compelling intro. Maybe it's silly of me to ask and please forgive me but I have to ask anyway; you'd not be implying your wife's grandpa was "Uncle" Semie now, would you?
I'm sure you'll find (very) knowledgeable folks here willing and able to help and advise you.
I'm just a player myself but undoubtedly posting some good pictures first of all you have there would be most welcome (if not
advisable I daresay) before you embark upon your project

I wish you good luck!

Welcome to the forum Scott. This is a great resource if you're planning a vintage restoration of your Mosrite. Like Veenture said, you might want to start a new topic (now that you've introduced yourself) that includes pictures of what you have to start with.
Good luck and enjoy the forum!

Welcome, Scott! Yes, We would appreciate photos of your project before, during and after you finish it. By the way, The Mark II didn't come stock with the Vibramute bridge (It had a different styled trem) But there could be some out there that came with one from the factory. The Vibramute would work nicely on your Mark II body as long as the string spacing is the same and it is put on in the right place, though.

My wife's grandad might have known Mr. Mosley but I never got that information before he passed. I live in Murrieta (Temecula Valley) CA and look forward to getting started on this project.
