Joined the Telecaster group October 2009. Completed 3 T guitars and one J bass all documented at TDPRI. Three current projects running (also posted at TDPRI) including a T style with a carved top (with the German Carve) and binding. I know Oigun from TDPRI. He just finished a Mosrite type that is beautiful. I began to copy that German Carve (on a T body) with the binding channel from seeing his work.
Picked up an undrilled Epcor body on ebay 8 months ago. It was unidentified at that point. After initially believing it to be a Mosrite (in part b/c of the angled neck pup), some research (and ultimately the Hallmark site and its wonderful archive photos) revealed its identity.
At that point, I began to learn the history of Hallmark, Mosrite and the various players.
I spoke to Bob Shade on the phone.
I delved into Deke Dickerson's old guitar and Mosrite history here last night. Very interesting.
The Epcor body is for sale on ebay as I type this. I'd always wanted a 335 type lefty for myself. I was planning to build it, but b/c of its rarity and special interest, I decided that it is best to leave it unmade. Also, to assemble it from original type parts will be costly. The pickup cavities are narrow and quite shallow. It would be a sin to rout them deeper. Only originals would fit correctly and there's $200 right there.
I hope to enjoy sharing and learning from others here. Its been enlightening and fun already.
