Hello good Mosrite people.

My name is Rich and I live in the SF Bay Area. I've been lurking for some time and this looks like a great friendly place. I have read every single post and use a search function well. (there are guitar forums out there that if you ask a dumb question, you are expected to jump on your pointy headstock) :D . And I will probably have more questions than answers.

I got my first Mosrite Ventures as a teenager and enjoyed it much of the 60's and 70's. It was my goto for several years. Unfortunatly, in the early 80's it ran away from home along with a couple Gretschs. My wife said it was my playing but since the TV was also missing I suspect foul play.

I guess my ticket here would be my late 60's Celeb III. I bought it used in Paso Robles about 1971. It was almost new then but she has a few gig dings and a little fret wear now. Still plays great.

I always ment to join the forum because the time zone offset drove me nuts but what finally pulled the plug was a link post that Sarah made on a Celeb. I went wow its only a few numbers from mine and its green too. I could only find one bad pic of mine on this computer so when I find the charger for the camera I'll put up a few so Sarah can give it a critique and tell me what I have. (K2004 the orange dot only says Celebrity but all the traits say Celeb III to my limited knowledge)

Thanx for having me
Rich

Welcome to the forum, Rich.

That's a great looking pair of guitars, though I can't quite make out the particular model silver face amp. At any rate, enjoy you stay and glad to have you as part of our Mosrite forum family.

Hey Rich, nice to have ya here, welcome. Those green Celebs are wonderful, aren't they?! Yours seems to have the Japanese diamond tuners if I see correctly. Sarah was talking about the types of tuners found on Celebrity's concerning the other green one on a recent thread ;) There are Fender fans here also, what year is your adventurous looking green Strat?

Thanks for the nice greeting

hehe I can answer a few things

AMP: I have 2 super Reverbs. A 64 black face and the 68 in the picture. You don't want to ask about the black grill cloth. It has to do with a small club, college kids that can't hold their beer and pretzles and me being really REALLY grossed out. San luis Obispo in the 70's was not a place to find Fender cloth, Radio Shack had to do.

Strat: Sorry about the Strat. I could only find that pic when I posted. She has been with me for a very long time. It's Fullerton 1958. The paint is original and it's CAG not sherwood.

Now the one I can not answer.
The TUNERS: Got a little charge on the battery so here is a pic. All I know is that they are smooth and have kept the guitar in tune for 40 years. Which is more than I can say for the Klusons on some of my 60's Gibsons.
What can you tell me about them?

Hi Rich and welcome to the forum. That's a beautiful green Celebrity you have! I love those green ones. Yours is definately a Celebrity-III with the "diamond" Japanese tuners. I would love to see more pictures of your Celebrity. Everything looks 100% original but I'm not sure about the switch tip. It looks white in the photo. The Celebrity-III's have several features that set them apart from the Celebrity-I and -II. It has single binding on the bout, no binding on the neck, smooth pickup covers, and during the 1966-1968 period the serial number will begin with "K". I'm pretty sure the Celebrity-III's were not made prior to 1966. I would guess that yours is 1968 based on the serial number.

Please share more photos, or you can email them to me. I would love to include your guitar on my website. :)

...just as a head's up Rich, Sarah is our forum's celebrity guru. I'm starting to think she knows more about them did Semie did! as for your tuners, these were tuners semie used regularly at that time for whatever reason he decided to not use the typical mosrite kluson. there's thread on here explaining it in more detail then I can do it justice.

I've seen these referred to as "the Japanese tuners" or "the diamond tuners". Either way, they were an economical tuner that Semie would put on guitars that he planned to give to churches or schools. Evidently they were cheaper than Klusons. I've seen them on Celebrity-II's, Celebrity-III's, and Dobro's. He may have put them on other models that I'm not aware of. I would not be surprised to see a Gospel pop up one of these days with these tuners on it.

Actually, I think Adam knows the origin of these tuners and hopefully will add to this thread.
