Hi,
I'm surfing-matze - new member of the german surf band "the kilaueas". I'm thinking bout getting a Mosrite-like guitar - maybe a Hallmark Custom 60 or an Excellent. I really like this forum and already red lots of interesting things bout all these guitars - so I just had to register

.

Howdy Matze, and welcome to the forum. Either way you go, Hallmark or Mosrite, I think you will be pleased. Don't get in a hurry and try to play both for comparison. However, I don't know if there any Hallmark's in Germany yet.

Welcome to the forum Matze. This forum has a wealth of information in it. We're kinda a big happy family here so someone here should be able to answer your questions concearning everything Mosrite. L8r, Kevin

Matze,
Welcome! You've joined a great band - I really enjoyed the Kiluaeas' sound and tell Ralf I say hi.

Welcome Matze!
Really dig The Kiluaeas. The band got a new line-up or is it just you that's new?

Mel, I already forwarded your Hello to Ralf, thanks a lot

.
Hello ElTwang

- The Kilaueas had a line up change - Volker Kilauea had left the band and I'm the "new one". First I have learned lots of the existing Kilaueas songs so we are ready to have gigs (starting at Berlin in November). And of course we're working on some new tunes.
The first new song with me will appear on the Hallmark / Barris compilation. There you can hear Ralf playing lead on his gold sparkle Swept Wing and me playin' rythm on his Fillmore.

Hi Matze,
My first love has lived in Germany for the last 22 years. I'm actually on here to get advice about restoring a Mosrite Celebrity Bass for her. She used to play my old Gospel Bass back when we were together in 1980. I ended up selling it (dumb move!) to get another piece of gear I needed, but she always liked it and wasn't happy that I sold 'her' bass.
The Celebrity is the closest thing to the old Gospel I could find, and it needs Gobs of work. Semie made the Gospels for Gospel groups, but this bass was basically a thick-body Celebrity. The Celebrity bass I found has body cracks , neck-joint issues and missing parts. It will also need a refinish job.
I've owned another solid body Mosrite bass, that I traded after the neck was broken (another bad move). I briefly owned an original Hallmark, that now belongs to Teisco Del Rey. I like the refretted Mosrites I've played because the tiny original frets are too hard for me to play. The newer Mosrites are also more playable for me, but the sound and look are sure great on every model. Good luck!
