Hello from Delaware

Greetings from Delaware to all Mosrite Fans!
I have been playing guitar for many years, but had a few years' hiatus...until now.
I'm getting back to my roots. The first song I learned to play was Walk Don't Run.
I love the Ventures, Dick Dale, Davie Allan and anything surf-related.

I have a '90 Strat and a Tom Anderson. I had a '71 strat I got for Christmas in 1971, but I let that go in the 80's. I just purchased a '62 Fender Jaguar Classic Player for the Ventures stuff. After much reading on the Ventures, I decided I MUST purchase a REAL Mosrite Ventures model.

I've been using your forum for about a week now to research a potential purchase of 1967 Mosrite signed by the Ventures on ebay.

I've emailed the seller to try to confirm the serial number and functionality as it doesn't seem to jive with your forum's serial number info for Ventures models. No response yet.

Any feedback regarding the authenticity and value for asking price would be much appreciated!

Welcome!

If you make that first "3" a "B" I think you'll find the serial number makes a little more sense. However, if you want a real Ventures model the Mark V may not be what you're after.

Cheers,
Adam

Hello mrmomo,
to me this Mark V looks authentic and original, I guess the serial number is B1431 what would be OK for a 1967 Mk. V. I guess the seller mixed up the "B" with a "3". The autographs look authentic to me, too, but I'm not a specialist for Ventures autographs.
Without paying attention to the autographs the price looks a little bit high to me for a Mark V...
Cheers, Max

Thanks for all of your feedback.

So, is the Mark I the way to go for the Ventures experience?

Take a look at this guitar for sale at GC:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/In-Store-Vintage-VINTAGE-MOSRITE-VENTURES-BLUE-WC-103415838-i1724524.gc
Could this be an earlier Mark I?

I'm also looking at another Mark V that appears to be in better shape:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/200698186609?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

The seller pulled a pot and verified it is 1346649 (1966) with SN B1646.

What is the magical difference between the Mark I and V? Is there one?
I'm learning.

I'd say the major difference regarding the sound are the pickups that should be hotter at the Ventures/Mark I than those of the VenturesII/Mark V, the first having around 12kOhms, the latter around 8kOhms.

B1646 would a quite high number for a Mark V with the Ventures Mark V logo, around B1500 the Ventures logo disappeared... I'd say the serial number is a badly stamped B1046...

Good to know.

Any thoughts on this '65 Reissue for sale?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mosrite-Mark-1-Mk-I-65-Re-Issue-/300649443038?pt=Guitar&hash=item46001a6ede

I've seen the official Roman site with premium prices, but are they actually a decent sounding reissue?
