New guy here

New guy here. I just placed an order for a 60 Custom tri-burst. I have wanted a Mosrite style guitar ever since I was kid, listening to the Ventures...yeah, I'm old. Never got the opportunity to buy one. And now...I wouldn't do business with Ed Roman for any guitar.

I own quite a few guitars. Gibson, Fender, Ibanez and several Agiles..which by the way are great budget guitars, if you haven't heard of them. But, I really want a Mosrite style guitar.

I've been looking at clones for some time, now. Nothing ever seemed quite right. The Wilson's aren't shaped right and the hardwares all wrong. The Eastwood's...well their Eastwood's. Probably OK guitar, but they have the Jazzmaster type trems, also. The Dillon's didn't do it either.

Then, I came across the Hallmark 60 Custom. Bingo. As close to the real thing as I've seen. But, what about quality, sound and playability? That's where you guys came in. I found this site and read all I could about the Hallmark's. You guys convinced me to give it a try.See...now I can blame you. ;)

I'll give my opinion when I take delivery. It's still not a Mosrite...but whadda ya gonna do?

BTW, nice forum.

You won't be sorry! The Hallmark 60 Custom is as good a guitar as any company makes today. I have had mine for over a year now with no issues at all. I did change the pots to 500k to suit my taste but they sound great right out of the box so to speak.

Thanks, I would have liked to have gotten one of the MIJ Mosrites...but I can't traverse their websites. :(

gplayer,

Welcome to the forum. I don't think you will be disappointed in your new Hallmark. They are fine guitars and priced right in comparison to the Japanese copies of Mosrites. Keep us updated when you get it and post some photo's.

Thanks for the welcome. I've already learned more about Mosrites, in the last few days, than I learned in the last 40 yrs.
I knew somewhat about the trials and tribulations of Semie Mosley. But, not to such detail. Somebody really should write a screenplay about his life, if they haven't already.

Welcome G!
Sorry to be late to the welcome wagon, but the holidays took me away from internetting. I love my Hallmark 60 Custom, but cannot pass judgement comparing it to a vintage Mosrite. It is much more versatile than playing just surf music (and there's nothing wrong with that!). Great tone and vintage styling. You'll bond with it I'm sure!

Thanks for the welcome. Unfortunately..or fortunately.. I don't have a Mosrite to compare it too. But, as compared to the variety of guitars I do have, the Hallmark holds it's own for sound and playability. It definitely does not have the chime like I associate with a Mosrite. But, it's close enough to shine above my other P-90 and single coil guitars. I really am enjoying the guitar, as I am sure others do.
