i've been thinking of joining a mosrite group for a while
but you know
i have to confess
all your guitars look so beautiful
and mine...
mine is just so worn out
almost embarrassingly so
it was worn out when i bought it 30 years ago
but i always wanted a one
so here i am

A worn out vintage Mosrite in original finish is generally better than a refinished Mosrites. And the tone is the thing! I just bough a worn out '65 Mark II and it is one of my favorite Mosrites now.

G'day Phillip and welcome to the Forum. A worn Mosrite is a beautiful Mosrite I reckon. I once had an old Mosrite bass which had so many holes and dings and paint chips, it looked like it had stepped on a landmine—but I loved it anyways. I sold it because I don't really play bass and I had the opportunity to use the money for a Mosrite six stringer. The guy who bought the bass also loved it despite its shrapnel riddled appearance ( or maybe because of it) so we were both happy.
I'd love to see some pictures of yours.

Hi Philipp,
a word of welcome also from me (joined just recently myself). The members soon made me feel at home too, it's like a family here!
Your old jaloppy guitar (with respect) could be worth a stack these days, without you knowing it. You should check out some of these rediculously high-priced guitars labelled "RELIC"; new ones made to look old and (ab)used!

As been said here, it's the SOUND that eventually counts! (That's what started me searching for a Mosrite in the first place, thanks to the Mosrite-sound of The Ventures)

BTW, you can always add a "Hallmark" guitar to your collection (read elsewhere in this forum), as I myself have done, only just recently because my search started 30 years or so too late!

thanks everyone for making me feel so welcome!
i hooked the old guitar up to an amp yesterday
and after wiggling the cord a bit....
well it really does sound good!
better than i'd remembered anyway
i changed the strings about ten years ago when
i took it to the local vintage guitar shop
the proprietor told me that if it were sanded
the original finish would be found beneath
but i don't think he looked at it very long
before he slammed the case shut and offered
a silver face deluxe reverb for it
now the last time someone slammed shut
one of my guitar cases and offered a trade
i came out second best so i got out of there
because i really did want a deluxe reverb
and he knew it
here is a pic of the machine head
kind of odd with the white on maple logo
but i see someone else has one here too
ps: never heard of hallmark until yesterday
what a great looking guitar!
i think i'm partial to the pearl white 60
