Yeah, I'm the new owner of Lou's namesake. I've looked for info on LM, but didn't find much. You think he's a Gospel musician from Semie's circle?

It's just an educated guess. There is a gospel double neck player here in Bakersfield named Dough Brewer that would probably know. He's been playing the gospel circuit for at least forty plus years. He called me a few weeks ago and we made plans for him to come over to the house but he never showed up. I don't have his phone number but did invite him to the forum. Maybe he'll see this and join in.

Danny, if I remember correctly, I believe Lou was a local guitarist in and around Bakersfield.
Whether he was a Gospel Musician or not, I do not recall unfortunately.....
Handbrake, did you by chance keep a copy of the E-Bay ad?

eBay wrote:1966 Mosrite Double Neck
Here is a very rare Double Neck Mosrite! It has a 12 String Neck on the top and 6 String Joe Maphis I Neck on the bottom. This was custom built for Lou Martin, who was a local Country musician in Bakersfield, California back in the 60's. He passed away a few years ago and this came from his estate. The guitar was originally White, but Mr. Martin had it refinished at the Mosrite factory in the 70's. One Tuner has been changed and there is an extra Strap Button hole, but the rest of the guitar is 100% original. I took the guitar apart about a year ago and took pictures, but I can't find them. I remember that one Pickup was dated to 1966 and I saw 1965 on another part, so it should date from around that time. I will try to update the listing with photos of the inside later on if I have time. The guitar weighs 11 Pounds 15 Ounces.
The Body is in excellent condition overall. No dings, scratches, cracks or major issues. The Necks are straight and have no noticeable fret wear. They both play great with no dead Frets or other sound issues. The Fretboards are clean and back of the necks have no major dings or wear. The Headstocks have no cracks, repairs or major issues. All of the electronics are original and are in excellent working condition. All of the hardware is original (aside from the one Tuner) and in excellent working condition. Lou Martin had is name etched into the Pickguard and had a little plaque installed that says "Custom Built for Lou Martin by Moss-rite". There is also a custom Strap with Lou's name on it. It comes in the original case which has some wear on the outside, but all of the latchs work.

Re: Doubleneck out of Bakersfield?
...take no notice handbrake, just a bit of boyish fun in this most enjoyable thread with excellent pictures BTW, so keep on going and I’m glad you DID bring it up!handbrake wrote:Boo.
I knew I shouldn't have brought it up.
It’s such a shame that someone has barbarised this instrument in the past by using nails on it…
The possible need in the past to assist the factory screws in bolting down the neck more securely should have demanded the use of more screws or even glue perhaps (killing disassembly options ‘though) but certainly not nails.
Luckily they’re hidden from view and I trust you’ll get at least 40 more years of pleasure from your doubleneck, now that we know it's your catch,

Paul
