Re: 2 more from the collection
...what about that finish on the 6 stringer? No yellow in the burst...is that unusual? (to me it is).

these redburst finishes are a little darker red tone then the red on the standard mosrite sunburst. all though semie did this finish in the 50's you really didn't see them on the ventures style guitar until the 70's. some celebrities had the redburst in the 60's it's one of my fav mosrite finishes too

...found one. Courtesy of http://www.tymguitars.com.au/mosriteinfo_history_05.htmVeenture wrote:dorckrockrecords wrote:Adam, yo' da man!As for the humbuckers, since the polepieces are misaligned that surely suggests that it did not leave the factory like that.
From a technical point of view, I would think that the polepieces of a humbucker doing SLANTED neck pickup-duty on a Mosrite would have to be designed in a stepped manner in order to properly align with the strings, which is NOT the case in Nick's guitar, as you have pointed out. I can't remember off-hand having seen an example of 'stepped polepieces' and if I have, it didn't registerI'll go a-lookin' for a suitable picture now.

Tim mentions that
"Mosrite started making humbuckers from 1972. These were the single coil covers with two rows of poles pieces. One row is drilled through the Mosrite of California embossing. These are sometimes mistaken for 12 string pick ups. The New Mosrite of California guitars had humbuckers with no exposed pole pieces and some of these had the embossed logo painted silver or white. These would date from around 1975/76".
[edit] since the 12 stringer probably dates from around '65 this corroborates Adam's findings that the guitar did not leave the factory with humbucker pickups, strengthened also by the fact of that 'non-stepped' polepieces NECK humbucker pup saying "I don't really fit well".
[edit 2] Aaron's two Mo's with those suitable humbuckers is a fine example of what I was looking for, as well as being two gorgeous axes!

Re: 2 more from the collection
thanks veenture
whats interesting to me is my earlier model (the redburst) has a even thinner neck then my later sunburst model. even though these guitars are the same model, they both have there own unique qualities to them. which is what i love about mosrites, these are NOT cookie cutter guitars in the least

Hey Nick, that's a most interesting bit of history to go with that guitar! Looks like Semie also applied his motto to your 12 string Mo' when he modded it..."if it's not there what you need...use what you have"...
In your case installing one straight lined polepieces HB pickup in the NECK position instead of a stepped polepieces HB pickup...
