So the Mark VIII showed up today. Wow. Serial number actually reads: C11(then it looks like the point of of Phillips screwdriver)19.

If that was difficult to follow, I'll try it again: C11x19

Neck is wide at the nut like my Telecaster and just as straight as you'd expect. I was hoping that that neck would be wider than my other Mosrites, but it was almost unrecognizable.

More later!

This unfamiliarity might have been caused by shaking hands. Or else my perception was distorted by the excitement of a new arrival. Neck width at the nut is a (typical for later guitars, I believe) 1-5/8". All the other Mosrite models I have are 1-1/2" at the nut, so it did feel like something different. ;)

After I reattached the brass string guide which was moving freely, I noticed that the third string wasn't really in the channel and was threathening to slide out. A local machinist provided a perfect little brass shim and we're back in business.

Made some show-and-tell visits that ended with, "If you ever want to sell that, let me know."

Some VIII vital stats:

Pickup resistance (bypass is switched toward the trem).

Neck Pickup: 5.35k/8.25k
Middle Pickup: 5.90k/8.80k
Bridge Pickup: 6.77k/10.57k

Note: Second number is with phase inverted (Phase inverted is when switched away from the trem. So, I think I'm measuring the resistance of the phase switch). Middle/upright setting is "Off".

Cool handbrake, how do you find all those pup settings? Hard to decide ;-)?

It's very cool. I'm trying to figure out the best way explain it. The pickups by themselves are what you'd expect in their respective positions. Of course, they sound great to my ears. Then you add or, with the phase invert switch, subtract signal. Leads to some neat combinations when you mute part of one pickup's signal with another (or two!).

I'll try to get some sound clips up at some point. The guitar was on stage Saturday night for a couple sets in the hands of people who really knew how to use it. It's an amazing axe.
