1. Set up an account for yourself on YouTube. YouTube doesn't accept sound file uploads. See below to turn your track into a movie by adding a graphic.

2. Download uMusic from http://umusic.codeplex.com/. uMusic will associate a graphic with common sound file types to create a movie.

3. If you've got a recent iPhone or upgraded the OS on your older one, you should have an native (provided by Apple) application called 'Voice Memos'. Nifty little interface with level indicator. Make your recording, but position your iPhone (or adjust the volume on your amp or such) to keep the needle out of the red.

3a. Trim your recordings using that feature in 'Voice Memos' if necessary.
3b. You've probably got iTunes installed. Go into preferences and tell iTunes to import songs as MP3.
3c. After you've got your selected track in iTunes, right-click to convert it to MP3.

4. Select and/or format an image to associate with your recording. Consider that if you use an image with 'landscape' orientation, it shouldn't get distorted by YouTube during processing.

5. Bond the image and the .mp3 version of your track together using uMusic.

6. Upload the result to YouTube.

7. Show us your results!
