What Year is My Maphis?

Postby eltuce » Sat Nov 17, 2012 4:06 pm

I believe I have mentioned it here before but didn't get any response. Anyway, I'm not sure how to tell what year it is and I am debating selling it so I'd like to get an idea so I know how to price it and also so I can put it in the description. It doesn't say Joe Maphis on the headstock which makes me wonder if it's a partsrite of sorts. Also, I don't think the knobs are original as they are gold plastic ones, possibly Radio Shack. I do currently have some NOS knobs on it that are correct. The serial number is D 639 with a V under it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The easiest way to tell is to remove the neck and look for a date written in the neck pocket and/or on the neck itself.

Ok, did that and I've got nothing. I did find it interesting that I couldn't do the capo trick and actually had to take the strings off as there is another screw under the pickup also holding the neck on.

Ok, well I got almost no response on this post but it is for sale if anyone is interested. It's most likely a partsrite put together later by Bill Gruggett and it's a '66 body. I am open to offers. I paid 1900 about a year ago and would like to get something close to that but let me know it you are interested. It is a great looking and playing guitar.
