Ginza Lights / Black Sand Beach

Postby dorkrockrecords » Sat Jun 01, 2013 5:19 am

Back around Thanksgiving of last year, my friend Tom invited me to go see Yuzo Kayama's monthly gig in Ginza. I brought the only Ventures model in my collection with me.

After the show while everyone was collecting their coats and filing up the stairs and onto the street, I snuck out the back door and down the alley to find Yuzo Kayama sitting in the club's makeshift green room, a clear vinyl tent outside in the loading dock. We had a lovely conversation, we geeked out over Mosrites, and he was kind enough to sign mine.

Occasionally being a foreigner in Japan has its perks.

Thanks. It's actually a bizarre '76.

He puts on a great show. There were a few instrumentals mixed in, but the bulk of his fanbase knows him as a movie star and a pop idol, so the set was heavy with songs and banter. Still a great entertainer, and the cat can shred when he chooses to (kinda like Prince).
