2nd Mosrite NGD

Postby SASouth » Thu Feb 12, 2015 7:01 am

I picked this '65 Combo up in a trade last weekend. (I was told it is '65 — it does have a neck plate, I haven't checked the pots yet.) It's pretty clean, no checking. There are just a few small dings here and there and just one major ding down to the wood which is on the lower horn. Surprisingly, there's no checking. There's also no buckle rash on the back. The case is in really nice shape too.

I love the guitar, but man those frets are really low, making bending strings pretty difficult. I'm trying to get used to it, but I'm considering having it refretted. I hesitate to do that because the guitar is all original and I don't really want to mess with its value, but I also want to be able to play it more comfortably. It's a conundrum. :?:

Here's some pics that I got from the seller's CL ad. I haven't taken any of my own yet.

From the "For What It's Worth" department...I wouldn't mess with it, but then I don't really play my Mosrites that much, pretty much play my Hallmarks and Clones.

Congrats, I was in the same boat concerning the vintage Mosrite frets, and even bought new fretwire but decided to buy a reissue instead of messing with the frets and risking losing the binding and serial number. The low frets make it hard to bend but the guitar is not unplayable, and the thing is that is just sounds so magical plugged in or acoustic that I don't want to mess with anything.

You just need more practice with the speed frets!
