Deke, thanks for the history lesson. I too wondered where that term came from.

I've been working on a new doubleneck for Mike Brown and have just gone through the "German Carve" process on the back plate. Here's a link to the sequece of the operation. http://www.bobsyouruncle.net/TNM_Guitars/Mike%20Brown/sn011_mike_brown2.htm

Hey Terry,

That is a great photo essay. Would you also post this over in the Projects forum along with any other 'secrets' you wish to share? I would try to split and copy it, but the way my luck has been going lately I'd delete it completely in the process.

Terry,

Not like it wasn't obvious before, but your craftsmanship is amazing! The photo journal on each guitar is a fantastic document on luthiery.

So, not to highjack the thread, but it looks like you don't route cavities under the pickups or bridge - are the wires run under the pickguards?

Hello Mel,
The bodies as you can see from some of the other progress photo's from previous guitars are hollow. The pickups I use are surface mounted but the pickup adjusting screws do go through the top plate (or partially through). What's not obvious is that I do drill 6 holes through the top to accommodate these screws and another for the pickup wires. The bridges that I have been using lately don't require anything but 2 studs drilled. A ground wire hole is also drilled under the tremolo.

That makes sense - thanks for the clarification!

That's what I like about this forum. Not only do you get your question answered. You get the answer straight form those who actually have first hand knowledge of the subject matter. Thanks for all the input gentlemen.
