Yep, that hollowed out back is identical to a couple other similar era Mosrites I've seen.

I never thought of it before until Danny mentioned that it had been drilled after it was painted. You can see that the original 'hogging' left about a 2" wide strip in the middle and went out to about 2" from the edge of the rim. The subseqent drilling took out the middle and expanded the drilling to about 3/4" from the rim. . . . and it's still pretty heavy BTW it's mahogany

Really interesting. I had never seen this design before until I found the Collins Kids u-tube with Larry playing this guitar.
Looks like Stan Welch had one too, with minor differences.

I bet networking with the right instrument repair folks around southern California may turn up some Carvins parts.

I fell in love with that sweet lass ever since it was first posted here on the forum a little while back. I know, I'm always a late comer to many things but watching that video fills me with gladness and enthusiasm every time I see those two wonderful people perform...so natural and truly driven by heart and soul. (gulp)

Looking at the photo's in my old worn out Carvin catalog, the Bigsby bowtie bridge below looks virtually the same minus the bow tie plate. The Carvin has no base plate but has those very same highly accented shaped individual string saddles and the same adjusting wheels. Could it be that Carvin acquired Bigsby's left over stock? I tried to scan the small photo in the catalog and blow it up, but the clarity wasn't there.

Neither Deke nor I have turned up who Stan Welch was, but he sure was lucky. That guitar is part of the permanent collection at Hyper Guitars in Tokyo, so if you're ever in the neighborhood, go see it for yourself (along with several other pieces of history).

But the diameter of the adjuster nuts is to large to let the bridge move close enough to the pickup to get the intonation right. I need adjusters about 7/16" or smaller to get the proper distance. . . at least on the treble side, and then it will be right against the pickup. I need to find some studs that have real small adjusters. - Terry

Most generic Tune-a-matic height-adjuster wheels have a much smaller diameter - it would be a matter of re-drilling them with the right (bigger) thread size for the larger Bigsby saddle studs.

Not that it really matters, but I had always heard of this bridge being referred to as
the 'dog-bone bridge' (the base plate underneath had earned this model the name).....
