According to my ancient S. Cherne blue book, sounds like a Joe Maphis Mark 1 (model #501), which was "available in Natural and Transparent Sunburst finishes", manufactured 1965-1969. Spruce top and walnut back! That's an amazing looking guitar. Congratulations!

Nice one!! Wasn't aware of JMs in sunburst either. What's the serial number on yours (if you don't mind sharing)? Mine is D425.

Again I must say how impressed I am with this model. I spend 2-3 months on and off going to the guitarshop to check it out and couldn't resist in the end. Mine has been played a lot and has that 'less collectible more of a players guitar' look and feel.
Play it through a clean amp and there's a bunch of cool sounds to be found. To my ears this is a Mark 1 sounding guitar with a hollowbody'ish thump.
I wonder wether JM himself actually played this model or not?
Congrats!
