sounds country. which some people don't even know what that is anymore. sad. although i will say that you really could use a steel guitar. but then I'm a bit biased in that department. and I'm sure you also probably agree.
Ya we have had a few steel players want to join the band and I agree it would add to our sound. The problem is finding the right one. We almost had a good friend that plays steel but he up and moved to Florida. LOL One that was just a plain a.. h... if you know what I mean. We did have a very good steel player set in one night but he lives to far away. In the Rochester area. We keep our eyes open and some day.... for now we will just keep on having fun doing what we do. We do have more gigs than the other bands around here so something is going ok.

Looks more like a '66 than a '65. The crude carve around the treble horn is a dead giveaway.

Connie,
I don't think that DRR was trying to insult you, or the guitar. The shape of the carves varied through the years as the guitar went from completely hand made to assembly line instruments. The evolution was all in the direction of making the guitar easier to build, so the carves became less graceful and more rigid as time progressed. It's most noticeable on the treble horn, but other parts of the carve changed as well.
I've got a '66 Ventures model too, and it's a great guitar. Mine has the truss rod adjustment at the headstock instead of the heel, but otherwise looks the same. The sunbursts on these guitars are fabulous.

From the few pictures I've seen of Hallmarks, the one thing main difference I've noticed between them and an Excellent is that the Hallmark carve does seem more hard-edged while the smoother Excellent looks like it has been poured into shape not carved.
I'd love to see a Hallmark up close.
Bill.

Re: more mosporn...
Hey--
Should we be calling Veenture Ichabod after seeing that photo?!?!?!
I REALLY like that three-color sunburst. That little touch of red really sets off the guitar.
When I was photographing Bob's 59 Custom, I couldn't get over how attractive the sunburst looked. As much as I would like to have an original "Semie" Mosrite, I feel lucky that the Hallmarks (and others, even though I haven't seen examples) are available nowadays.
They are very nice guitars!
