Made for Dolly Parton...1978 "aluminum rail" pink acoustic!!

As Spock would say, "fascinating......." That neck looks pretty wide, perhaps to accomodate those long fingernails on Dolly's left hand? I thought, at 1st glance, he had just put an ordinary acoustic pickguard on there, like the rest of his acoustics, which were very thin and tended to swell & warp.
But he used a 3, maybe 4 ply one on this, even though the shape is normal. I'm surprised he didn't do something fancier with the shape. I love the headstock, how he still got the "M" in there, but in such a unique way. Someone ought to show this to Dolly..........

I noticed that one of the little "dots" is missing on the bridge which then exposes a screw head. Does that mean that the bridge is actually screwed down with four screws instead of being glued as with most acoustics? If that is the case, it is an interesting departure from a typical acoustic build process. This guitar is truly a beautiful example to behold. I find myself returning over and over just to look at the pictures. I know Semie is really noted for his electrics, but if this guitars plays and sounds as good as it looks, then it's a shame he didn't make more of them!

interesting to say the least. i had read that semie had originally used the aluminum rail before the brass but it proved unstable. that was from the tym website. if this is true, how come aluminum here? and does it appear stable in this guitar? did he figure out what the problem was or what?

any pictures of the guitar anywhere before the pink faded?

I think it works here due to less string tension.

And I ask again, How does it play? How's the volume and how's the sustain? I'm thinking of possibly building a guitar like it, But I'm in the early stages of figuring out what I'd like to build.

That is a rare beauty for sure. My dad also made her one at one point of her career with pink inlaid butterflies in the wood. I dont believe it was a brass rail however, but I was told he did give it to her when she played in Bakersfield. Ive seen the one you are showing us before in his photo collection, but I didnt realize Dolly has never seen it .

notice the selmer style neck heel, i like the steel bridges too , years ago, there was a classical maker who used steel bridge pins too, almost as interesting as Dolly !

AFter seeing this Mosrite Dolly Pardon, which I had seen photos of before, I realized I had never seen the Gruggett photo of the Dolly Pardon guitar I mentioned above even tough a family elder had mentioned stories of the guitar on more than one occasion. Ive searched wide and low and all over the internet and since I dont find proof of the Gruggett Dolly Parton and the 'elder' of our family is now 93 and not remembering things well, I am getting alot of confusion and mixed messages, so unless someone knows otherwise or sends me proof, I will suffice to say that the Gruggett Dolly Pardon guitar is not in existence, and Bill likely did not do the Mosrite one since at the time Semie and Billy were not working together. Adam feel free to chime in with more info if you would like, as I know you have more details on this guitar.
